RB Salzburg and Nike released some of the weirdest looking kits this year and I knew I had to get one. Unfortunately Red Bull doesn’t sell them in the US. Their European site will redirect you to the US store and even if you use an incognito window they won’t accept a US address for the shipping address. So I found a solution—and no it doesn’t involve flying to Europe or having a connection in Salzburg. It’s a little slow and definitely a little expensive, but it works.
Parcel forwarding services essentially let you ship a package to their warehouse, and then they take your package and ship it to you. There are a lot around the world so I suggest you do a little research. I ended up going with Shipito (affiliate code) because they have a warehouse in Austria and I figured that would be the cheapest option locally. All you need to do is create an account and then set up your warehouse locale. Once this is done they will provide you with an address that you then use for shipping addresses on orders.
Depending on where you’re buying from, this can either be annoying or pretty easy. In the case of the Red Bull Europe site, I opened the page in an incognito Chrome window to make my purchase (using a regular browser window isnt possible as the RB site tries to redirect you on every single page). Notably I also placed my order using PayPal—I assume using my American credit card would also trigger an order rejection. If you’re trying to buy from a site that doesn’t accept PayPal or another web payment system this may get really tricky—thankfully I didn’t have to worry about it.
Obviously, the key here is to make sure you use the parcel forwarding system’s address they provide you when placing your order.
Now that you’ve placed an order, you wait for it to arrive at the parcel forwarding site. Once it does that you will probably be alerted by their system (Shipito has a pretty nice website and its pretty clear when you’ve received a package). Some services will also take photos of your package for proof it wasn’t damaged.
Once the package arrives you will probably need to provide the parcel forwarding service your US address, fill out a US customs form, and then pay them before they will ship it to you. For my 2 jerseys it cost about $60 to ship it pretty slowly from Austria to the US. It’s a lot for sure, but they actually had more expensive options that included tracking and insurance. Just reminding you I didn’t tell you this was cheap!
Once the order is placed with your parcel forwarding service they ship it out to you. Wait a little longer and you should finally have that rare jersey.
Also, I should mention this: make sure the address you provide them is rock solid. I live in NYC and have notoriously bad mail service. I initially placed my order and it never arrived—eventually Shipito told me they had the package returned to them! So I had to have them reship it to my office, which made it even more expensive.
Let me know your experience and if you found any better hacks to make this system cheaper or faster.
